Common Types of Facial Implants

If you are unhappy with your appearance and struggle with a lack of self-confidence, you may be considering plastic surgery to enhance your look. Facial implants are solid materials used to enhance the structure of the face. Any area of the face can be improved with facial implants, however, the cheek, chin, and jaw are among the most common.

If you desire high, well-defined cheek bones that you feel your face is lacking, you might consider cheek implants. Cheek implants can increase the projection of the cheekbones and add volume to flat areas. For this type of surgery, an incision is made on either side of the eyelids where a pocket is then formed and the implant is inserted. You can expect this type of implant surgery to take about 30 to 45 minutes.

Many individuals describe themselves as having a small or recessed chin that isn’t a distinct feature on their face. If your chin is an area you wish to improve, chin implants can be placed to increase its size and projection. Your surgeon selects the correct size and shape of the implant depending on the look you want. For surgery, an incision is made inside the mouth or under the chin area to create the pocket and the implant is placed.

The jaw is another area that you may feel is not well defined. Or, it might slope, causing your face to look imbalanced. These issues can all be resolved with jaw implants. Jaw implants can be placed to increase the width of your lower face. For surgery, internal incisions are made on either side of the lower lip where a pocket is created for the implant to be inserted. This type of implant surgery typically takes one to two hours.
